How can I tell if an onion is sweet?
Sweet onions tend to have a thinner, lighter skin than their storage counterparts. Most produce sections should have signs clearly marking the difference in onions but if not look for PLU stickers.

What should I look for when buying a sweet onion?
Avoid any onion with soft spots or bruises. These can be caused by improper handling and will cause the onion to breakdown faster. Look for a light brown color with shiny skin that feels tight and has a dry neck.
